Static verification of existing buildings and design of renovation and consolidation interventions of load-bearing structures


The Sarpi Montella studio, whose owner Eng. Francesco Sarpi Montella has always been interested in the design and verification of reinforced concrete and masonry structures, acquiring over the years also certificates issued by the Order of Engineers of the Province of Naples for refresher courses on "Verification of Masonry Buildings", "Technology and Statics of Masonry and Monumental Constructions", "Structural Analysis of Masonry Constructions", "Consolidation of Masonry Constructions", Seismic Behavior of Masonry Constructions and Risk Mitigation", "Seismic Verification of Masonry Construction", is able to offer its qualified technical consultancy to resolve the following problems inherent to the renovation of buildings:

  • Static checks of reinforced concrete and masonry buildings and design of the consolidation works and interventions necessary to restore the load-bearing structures of the building.
  • Design of the renovation of building facades with technologies and materials that guarantee effective and long-lasting intervention on all types of facades (load-bearing masonry buildings and reinforced concrete buildings).

The static checks and the planning of building restoration and consolidation interventions are all carried out in compliance with the new Technical Construction Standards NTC 2018 and Circular 2019.

The aforementioned standards, in addition to establishing new criteria for the design of structures in seismic zones, radically modifying the methods of calculating the actions and loads acting on buildings, have also defined the methodologies to be adopted for static checks both for buildings to be built from scratch and for existing buildings.

Furthermore, with the entry into force of the aforementioned Technical Construction Standards, it has become mandatory, both for interventions on existing buildings and for the construction of new buildings, to carry out the Maintenance Plan of the structures which has the purpose of indicating all the interventions and works to be carried out periodically to prevent the structures of the constructed buildings, or existing ones in the case of renovations, from deteriorating over time with the risk of lesions, subsidence and in some cases even collapse of the load-bearing structures of the building itself.

The Sarpi Montella studio is also able to offer a “turnkey” service which includes the following phases:

  • Diagnosis of the static conditions of the building through an accurate analysis of the load-bearing structures of the building carried out also using tests on the materials and structures on site and in the laboratory where necessary.
  • Identification of consolidation and/or restoration interventions of the load-bearing structures of the building.
  • Quantification of the costs to be sustained for the execution of consolidation and/or restoration interventions on the load-bearing structures of the building, also through a comparison between the different types of possible intervention and the relative costs, highlighting the best choice from an economic (lower costs) and functional (longer duration of the intervention) point of view.
